Commission approves two housing projects on 5th Street

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission approved plans on Tuesday for two major housing developments scheduled for N. 5th Street in Northern Liberties and South Kensington. The projects, at Fairmount and just north of Girard, were subject to Civic Design Review earlier this month.

In response to comments from the review committee, Sean Frankel, the developer of the project between Girard and Thompson, had the layout reorganized so that all the living quarters are above grade. In addition, the developer added landscaping elements to the parking area to meet the 10-percent requirement of the zoning code.

Both projects will go before the zoning board next Wednesday, July 29. View the full hearing below.
