Secret Service releases official Pope Map and banned item list

The Secret Service released a statement this afternoon listing the official pedestrian routes for all of the papal visit events, as well as a list of items that will be banned within the security perimeter.

Perhaps the biggest reveal: there will be a ticket-holder only area surrounding the Ben Franklin Parkway from the Art Museum down to 20th Street for the mass that Pope Francis will celebrate on Sunday. The remainder of the Parkway will be open to non-ticketed guests. Previously, the Sunday mass was advertised as being a non-ticketed event, but World Meeting of Families officials had alluded to the possibility of some ticket-only areas.

The speech on immigration and religious freedom planned for Saturday afternoon at Independence Mall will also be a ticket holder-only event, it appears.

This map does not show the traffic-restricted Francis Festival Grounds, which is much larger.

The Secret Service also provided a prohibited item list for the secured areas that finally considers selfie sticks as dangerous as firearms, explosives and “structures”. That list, along with the rest of the press release, is below.

Check out the map and the accompanying papal visit guide below. It’s also attached as a .pdf at the bottom of this article. For more information about the papal visit, check out NewsWorks’ Pope in Philly coverage.
