September 17: DRWC finalizing land deal for South Philly trail | DRPA frees up Papal parking | BIA bill in Council

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is close to finalizing the land acquisitions that will allow them to build a 0.7-mile waterfront bike and walking trail in South Philly, reports Jacob Adelman. 

City Council is considering amendments to the BIA’s bill upzoning parts of Center City this afternoon. Here’s the backstory on that. Jared Brey will have a report later today.

Melissa Daniels says PennDOT is asking Amtrak to add a second daily round trip option for the Pennsylvanian line between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh at the western PA meeting on the state rail plan. Jim Saksa is covering the Philly meeting tonight. 

Is this a big downward indicator of Papal visit attendance? Jim Walsh at the Courier-Post reports DRPA is freeing up 8,500 parking spaces on the Camden waterfront for private vehicles that had previously been reserved for charter bus parking. 

Eric Blumenfeld tells James Jennings he has no plan to add parking to the Divine Lorraine because  it’s “literally on top” of the BSL and “people are just going to stop driving.”

New temporary parking permits for Center City residents who have to move their cars out of the secure perimeter during the Papal visit are going to crowd South Philly’s curb parking even more, says Taylor Farnsworth.
