October 11: Cleaning North Broad | $3m for Schuylkill River Trail segement | Barwin’s Civic Season

North Broad Renaissance spent its first year finding its footing as the new organization formed to support and promote North Broad Street after Avenue of the Arts failed to do so. The Temple News reports North Broad Renaissance now has cleaning crews on North Broad and side streets, focused on areas below Germantown Avenue. Plans to extend the Schuylkill River Trail 2.25 miles south from Bartram’s Mile to Passyunk Point in Southwest Philly received $3 million boost from the state. PhillyMag reports that the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funds will go to “acquisition, remediation, site work, and construction for the first two phases of the project.”

During his bid for City Council, Alan Domb vowed to give away his salary. Now Domb is giving away his $129,000 salary to Philly schools through individual $2500 checks, Tom MacDonald reports.
