Where is Callowhill’s industrial past becoming its future? What does it mean to be at home in a rowhouse? What happens when strangers walk and talk together about their city?

Once again, PlanPhilly is proud to present Jane’s Walk on May 5-7, a weekend of free walks that promote curiosity and dialogue and ask Philadelphians to explore their city together. Jane’s Walks are occasions to slow down, look closer, and learn together.

Every year Jane’s Walk takes place the first weekend of May in hundreds of cities across the planet, in homage to the spirit of urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs, who championed community-driven city building. Jane’s Walks are roving conversations led by volunteers, with citizen and professional experts sharing observations, telling stories, connecting with neighbors, and thinking out loud. They’re opportunities to share what you know about Philly and learn more about what you don’t.

Jane’s Walk is free and open to anyone. Join any walk – or lead one yourself. (It’s absolutely not too late! Our walk roster is still growing. Sign up here.) We’ll walk and talk about what makes public spaces and commercial corridors healthy, ideas in equitable design and development, share neighborhood histories and possible futures, and consider what it takes to make a more livable Philadelphia.

We think Philadelphians deserve more opportunities to elevate the voices of residents as experts, to talk about the wellbeing of our neighborhoods, and advance the cause of community-driven city building  – in person, on the street, in real time.

You can check out all of the walks at the Jane’s Walk Philadelphia site or via Jane’s Walk Philly on Facebook.
