High-rise hotel coming to the site of the former Midtown II diner in Center City

From greasy spoon to silver spoon. The site at 122 S.11th Street in Philadelphia once occupied by Midtown II Restaurant is set to become a 14-story, 86-room hotel with restaurants on the bottom two levels.

The iconic diner went up for sale in 2016 after more than 30 years of 24-hour service in Center City. It was one in a chain of four Midtown restaurants. The Midtown III at Rittenhouse Square is the last one left.

Former owner Gus Hionas told news outlets in 2016 business took a dive after a Philadelphia Inquirer article reported health code violations at the restaurant.

The diner closed in June 2016, and was purchased the following December by Sansom Realty Holdings, LL for $3.85 million.
