Drexel University has broken ground for a new science building named for its late president.

The $70 million Constantine Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building at 33rd and Chestnut in Philadelphia is expected to be done in spring of 2011.

Drexel Provost Mark Greenberg says the university found several ways to memorialize the man who revolutionized the university, among other things, acquiring a medical school and starting a law school:

"There's a scholarship fund with his name on it. There's the science building which we hope will be a memorial that will last for many, many years and there's also an annual Greek series of plays or presentations in his honor."

Greenberg says students, faculty, and the trustees all agreed that the science building as a site for innovation and technology, which Dr. Papadakis loved, would be a fitting tribute.
