Linking Older Adults and Homeless Pets to Build a Better Philadelphia

GenPhilly will be hosting a panel of experts in the fields of aging, animal welfare, & social services and together we will:

  • Learn how adopting an animal can benefit the physical & mental health of older adults, and identify the challenges that older pet owners face
  • Discuss how animal shelters & rescue groups could increase adoptions, improve “save rates,” & expand their volunteer base by engaging with older adults
  • Consider how pet ownership, especially among older adults, can contribute to healthier, stronger neighborhoods for Philadelphians of all ages
  • Hear best practices from “Pets and Elder Team Support (PETS),” a project of the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) in New York City

PANELISTS:

  • Alexandra Collier, MPA, Director of Special Projects, Jewish Association for Services for the Aged
  • Allen Glicksman, PhD, Director of Research and Evaluation, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging
  • Kim Wolf, Board Member, Philadoptables (Friends of the Philadelphia Animal Control Shelter)
