At the time of its construction, Philadelphia City Hall was a monumental feat of artistic, technological and civic will. Modern in every aspect of its design, the construction project spanned over thirty years producing a structure extraordinary in concept. This three-day symposium will look at the history of City Hall and at the extensive efforts to rehabilitate and restore the exterior marble and granite facades, windows, roofs, and iron work, as well as the conservation work of its many marble and bronze sculptures. Also included will be behind-the-scenes guided tours of interior spaces. The Preservation Alliance is a sponsor of this event, and executive director John Gallery will present "City Hall's Influence on the Development of Center City."
