RECEPTION: 5:30 - 6:30 PM
PANEL DISCUSSION: 6:30 - 8:00 PM

In cooperation with The Galleries at Moore and the Fine Art and Art Education Departments at Moore College of Art & Design, please join the Mural Arts Program's ArtWorks! art education program for a reception and panel discussion about …Or does it explode?
…Or does it explode? is an outdoor collaborative artwork with Dread Scott and at-risk youth, consisting of a collection of human scale full body photographic portraits of the teenagers in illuminated light boxes supplemented by an audio component. The audio enables each photograph to "speak" through interviews with the youths about their hopes for the future. The title for the project is taken from the last line from Langston Hughes' classic poem Harlem, which begins, "What happens do a dream deferred?" For more project information visit our project blog.

Moderated by Janet Kaplan, Head of Curatorial Studies at Moore College of Art & Design, and including panelists Dread Scott, Mural Arts Program Founder and Executive Director Jane Golden, Philadelphia Family Court Administrative Judge Kevin Dougherty, and artist Jennie Shanker, the discussion will address the roles and responsibilities of public art, site-specificity, and the relationship between art and social justice.
