Philadelphia’s Reading Viaduct: An Elevated Park Connecting NeighborhoodsPrint Page

November 15, 2011 - 6:00pm - 8:30pm

In 2003, a citizen advocacy group decided to repurpose the Reading Viaduct, an elevated train track traversing the traditional northern boundaries of Center City. Creatively remediated as a park, the repurposed viaduct can spur neighborhood revitalization while providing a unique recreational space with spectacular views of the city skyline. At this Town Square program, learn about the project’s history and get updates on its potential environmental and health benefits, including enhanced air quality, reduced storm-water runoff, and increased ecological resources for urban wildlife.
