Schuylkill River Trail boat and bike tourPrint Page

October 31, 2009 - 9:00am - 4:30pm

The PA Chapter of the East Coast Greenway Alliance, in collaboration with the Schuylkill River Trail (SRDC) and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) is hosting a Bike and Boat Tour on Saturday, October 31, 2009.

The tour will start at the Schuylkill River Trail at the Walnut Street Dock area – everyone will bike all the way down to Fort Mifflin, near the Philadelphia Airport – going thru the existing and proposed trail segments.  Participants will get a guided tour and explanation of the trail segments, as well as of historical and natural attractions along the way – including Bartram’s Garden (the first botanical garden in America), the Blue Bell Inn (where Washington was said to have slept), and the Heinz Wildlife Refuge (a national park in the middle of our city)!

From Fort Mifflin, participants will take a relaxing boat ride back up the Schuylkill, ending up where they started, at the Walnut Street Dock!

In addition to the guided tour, your $100 contribution for the ride will cover such items as membership in the national East Coast Greenway Alliance, a catered boxed lunch, admission to Fort Mifflin, and truck transport of your bike back to the Walnut Street Dock.  Of course, the donation will not only support the national alliance, but will also help match efforts that the SRDC and PEC have been spearheading to build more trail segments in the region.
