PARK(ing) Day

PARK(ing) Day is an annual daylong global event where citizens, artists, and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. In Philadelphia, approximately 50 volunteer teams design, build, and install these temporary 170 square-foot "parks" througout the city as a gift to their fellow citizens. All parks are self-funded and together they help to raise awareness of the need for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in our urban areas.

PARK(ing) Day Philadelphia is presented by the Center / Architecture + Design in partnership with the Philadelphia Parking AuthorityAIA Philadelphia, the Community Design Collaborative, + the Charter High School for Architecture + Design.

PARK(ing) Day was founded in 2005 by Rebar Group, a San-Francisco-based architecture and design firm.
