PennDOT rebuilds Holme Avenue Bridge ahead of schedule
A bit of good news via our friends at NEast Philly this week: a bridge reconstruction project that has detoured traffic for months in Holme Circle is finishing well ahead of schedule.
The Holme Avenue Bridge, built in 1919, was being repaired this summer when crews discovered such significant structural deficiencies that PennDOT ordered its closure and full reconstruction. The bridge crosses Conrail tracks, and its closure in June has caused traffic woes for area residents.
Yesterday NEast Philly reported that PennDOT told the Holme Circle Civic Association the new bridge will likely open at the end of October, two months ahead of schedule. The new bridge will have the same basic design as the former, with the addition of improved sidewalks and lighting. After construction is complete, the Holme Circle Civic Association has beautification plans for the circle itself.
