First Friday Part at Race Street Pier

Friday, October 7, 7-9pm. Race Street Pier. Friends of Race Street Pier and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation are hosing a First Friday party tonight. Check out the galleries in Old City, walk down the Race Street Connector, and head out onto the Pier for food from the Bike Caffe, music, and performers. Free.

Dia De Los Muertos at Magic Gardens: Family Jams

Sunday, October 9, Noon-4pm. Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, 1020 South Street. The Magic Gardens is celebrating Dia De Los Muertos all month and kicks its celebration off with a day to decorate the ofrenda (an altar to honor the dearly departed) and create Day of the Dead crafts. Free with admission.

Outfest

Sunday, October 9, Noon-6pm. 11th-13th streets between Walnut and Spruce streets. To celebrate National Coming-Out Day, Outfest 2011 is a huge block party with street vendors, flea market, high heel race, dancing and performances – including the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts aerialists. At 2pm a historic marker will be placed at Giovanni’s Room,  America’s oldest LGBT bookstore.

Fall For the Arts Festival

Sunday, October 9, Germantown Avenue between Willow Grove and Rex Avenue, Chestnut Hill. Sunday, October 10. Germantown Avenue becomes a festive outdoor arts and crafts marketplace, hosting more than 200 talented artists from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and from as far away as New Mexico.
