Monumental!: Designing and Restoring Philadelphia City Hall

Saturday, November 5, 8am-4:30pm, Penn Design, Meyerson Hall, 210 South 34th Street. PennDesign’s Program in Historic Preservation hosts a weekend symposium to examine the legacy of our City Hall, and the campaigns to restore the building. Tickets are $55 for the Saturday symposium; free for students. Tickets for the lectures on Saturday, as well as other symposium events can be purchased online.

LOVE Your Park Day

Saturday, November 5, 9am-1pm. Citywide. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Department of Parks and Recreation, and Fairmount Parks Conservancy are calling all volunteers to help clean and green the city’s parks before winter sets in.  Help clean up garden beds, rake leaves, and perform other end-of-season chores. Check this map for participating parks.

Passyunk Square Civic Association House Tour

Saturday, November 5, Noon-4pm.Cruise Passyunk Square homes while eating and drinking your way through the neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. Pick up tickets, wristbands and maps at Benna’s (8th and Wharton) and B2 (Passyunk and Dickenson). Tickets are $20 in advance online, $25 that day. Admission includes a slice from SLiCE, a drink at Devil’s Den after the tour, and a Benna’s coupon. 

World Culture Day: Travel the World with Games

Sunday, November 6, 1-4pm. Penn Museum, 3620 South Street. Learn about and play games from all over the world in the Penn Museum’s international galleries. Play Chess, from India, or Backgammon from Asia Minor, or Senet from Egypt. And, just for fun, at 3pm there’s a 10,000-piece domino fall. Free with museum admission.
