Election Day

Tuesday, November 8, 7am-8pm. Candidates for almost every local government office are on the ballot in Tuesday’s election. Just in case you need to get up to speed, The Committee of 70 has great voter education resources, including an election guide, polling place map, list of candidates, campaign finance reports, and a plain language description of the ballot question to authorize a “rainy day fund” for the city. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.

TEDxPhilly

Tuesday, November 8, 9am-6pm. Temple University’s Performing Arts Center, 1837 North Broad Street. The daylong idea conference returns to Philly for the second time. This year’s theme is “The City” and participants will explore issues, conflicts, innovation, creativity, and design. Tickets are $100 and are available online.

Zoning Code Commission Meeting

Wednesday, November 9, 9am. City Hall, Mayor’s Reception Room. At its next meeting, the Zoning Code Commission will likely vote to send its final version of the reformed zoning code to City Council. That move would also dissolve the commission.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show

Opens Thursday, November 10, 10am-8pm. Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street. The 35th annual craft show brings together 195 artists to show and sell their work at the Convention Center through Sunday. The annual auction to benefit the museum’s Women’s Committee runs from November 9-15 and may be viewed online. Tickets are $15 (single day) or $20 (two days), and are $5 for kids under 12. Hours vary by day: November 10-11, 10am-8pm; November 12, 10am-6pm; November 13, 10am-5pm.

Veterans Day at the National Constitution Center

Friday, November 11, 9:15am-4pm. National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street. To honor the service of American military personnel, the National Constitution Center is hosting a Veterans Day celebration. Learn flag etiquette, observe a wreath-laying ceremony, speak with military veterans, and take in the Center’s new World War II exhibit Fighting for Democracy: Who is the “We” in “We the People”? Admission for Veterans and active military personnel is free. $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for kids 12 and under.
