Witold Rybczynski’s The Biography of Building Monday, November 21, 6:30-8pm. PennDesign, Meyerson Hall, Upper Gallery, 210 South 34th Street. Celebrate the launch of Witold Rybczynski’s new book, which tells the story of Sir Robert Sainsbury working with Sir Norman Foster to create the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia, one of Foster’s great works.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thursday, November 24, 8:30am-Noon. Benjamin Franklin Parkway and JFK Boulevard. Philadelphia has the oldest Thanksgiving parade in the nation, 91 years strong, and the tradition continues this year on Thanksgiving morning. Balloons, floats, special guests (Eagles Cheerleaders, Miss America 2010, Brandy, Santa, etc) local school marching bands and choirs will parade down the Parkway from Eakins Oval, and then down JFK Boulevard.

RiverRink

Opens Friday, November 25. Penn’s Landing, Columbus Boulevard at Market Street. For the 18th year running, the Penn’s Landing RiverRink returns for the winter this Friday. Admission $8 or $9 on Friday and Saturday night; Skate rental is $3.

Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad

Opens Friday, November 25, Reading Terminal Market Piano Court, 12th and Arch streets. Twelve working model train lines cruise a 500 square-foot display, through different environments including a tiny Center City Philadelphia, snowy countryside and Christmas Village.
