Lardner’s Point Park construction begins, Occupy offered limited permit, Duffy String Band preps, PECO substation reuse

The Delaware River City Corporation officially broke ground on Lardner’s Point Park this week, PlanPhilly reports. The new park will be built next to the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, and riverside from the Lardner’s Point Water Pumping Station. Come 2012, the new park will feature a fishing pier, restored wetlands and riverbank, trails, and picnic area. It will also be a trailhead along the Delaware Greenway, and eventually help link pieces of the larger East Coast Greenway.

The City has offered Occupy Philly a permit to protest at Thomas Paine Plaza from 9am-7pm until December 20, and will not allow protesters to sleep in tents on city property anymore, the Inquirer reports. Occupy had been drawing up its tent city map for Thomas Paine Plaza. The city says Occupy must answer within 48 hours, and Occupy says it will consult its lawyers. So will it be a occupation anymore?

After sitting unused and dark for years, Naked Philly peeks inside the former PECO substation at 6th and Federal and suspects a reuse plan from 2008 could be underway.
