Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Holiday Pop-Up Shop

Monday, December 12- Friday, December 16, 8am-2:30pm daily. Comcast Center, 1701 John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Visit the Comcast Center’s lower lobby this week and find the first-ever PHS Holiday Pop-Up Shop, selling PHS merchandise for all of the gardeners on your list, as well as tickets to the 2012 flower show.

Moviehouse

Tuesday, December 13, 6:30pm. Historical Society of Frankford, 1507 Orthodox Street. The Center for Northeast Philadelphi,  The Historical Society of Frankford will feature Rick Spector’s “Moviehouse”, a photographic tour of Philadelphia’s former movie theaters, at their Winter Holiday Social. Free for members, $5 for others.

Community Conversation on Gardening and Land Issues

Wednesday, December 14, 6-8pm. Finanta Building, 1301 N. 2nd Street. Join the Food Organizing Collaborative, South Kensington Community Partners, and Garden Justice Legal Initiative to discuss strategies for protecting gardens on vacant/abandoned land, learn more about Pennsylvania’s land bank legislation, how citywide planning and zoning efforts affect urban gardening. Unsilent Night and Old Philadelphia Holiday Party

Wednesday, December 14, 6-7:30 Unsilent Night, meet at Ethical Society of Philadelphia 1906 Rittenhouse Square. 7:30-10pm party at Orpheus Club of Philadelphia, 254 Van Pelt Street. Hidden City presents Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night, a composition created to played outdoors during December on various boomboxes as “carolers” process through city streets. Bring your own boombox if you can. The procession will be followed by a traditional holiday party at the Orpheus Club complete with plum pudding and wassail. Unsilent Night is free; party costs $30 for Hidden City members, $40 for non-members.
