Former Liddonfield Homes, c. 2007 | Google Street View View Larger Map
After years of conversation and neighborhood debate, there is still no plan for the former Liddonfield Homes public housing site in Upper Homlesburg. Early last year, the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) finished demolishing Liddonfield, leaving the 32-acre site ripe for redevelopment.
As part of their ongoing coverage, NEast Philly checks in on the future and the past of Liddonfield Homes
site today. NEast Philly reports that Upper Holmesburg Civic Association opposes construction new affordable housing on the site by PHA, and is petitioning
in favor of a possible expansion of Holy Family University or creating senior housing.
For some, Liddonfield's history as public housing shouldn’t be erased so easily. Rosemary Reeves
, who grew up in Liddonfield, is giving a talk tonight
about the site’s history, hosted by the Northeast Philadelphia History Network at the Pennepack Baptist Church. Reeves blogs about her memories growing up in Liddonfield and is campaigning to have the place honored by a historical marker.
