Catholic school closings ahead, Washington Ave’s industrial past and future, PECO tree work, market hunting

As Philadelphia’s public schools face closure and consolidation, Catholic school closings also loom on the horizon. The Inquirer reports that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is set to announce a major realignment of the region’s Catholic educational system, including potentially dozens of school closures, as a result of a Blue Ribbon Commission study.

NextFab, a member-based workshop and prototype lab, is opening a second location at 20th Street and Washington Ave. Naked Philly finds a connection to Washington Avenue’s industrial history in the fabrication lab/innovation workshop’s move.

PECO plans to spend $1 million on area tree work in early 2012 to help prevent outages, reports the Business Journal.
