Architecture In Film Series: Citizen Architect

Monday, January 9, 6:30pm, screening begins at 7:15. Philadelphia Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. See the 2010 documentary about Samuel Mockbee’s Rural Studio, as part of a monthly film series exploring ideas and themes on architecture and architects. The monthly series is hosted by John DeFazio, AIA (Architect & Associate Professor at Drexel University) and Nick Grouch, Assoc. AIA. Films begin with a discussion of the relevant themes and elements to notice during the screening and are followed by an informal discussion. Films are generally shown on the first Monday of each month. Join us before every film at 6:30pm for a wine and cheese reception. $5-$10 suggested donation at door.

Economic Development Finance Seminar

Tuesday, January 10 – Wednesday, January 11. PECO, Energy Hall, 23rd and Market. Join the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations for a two-day seminar, taught by training staff from the National Development Council. The seminar will provide nonprofit community-development corporations training to help support small businesses growth. PACDC members $75 plus $50 for each additional staff member; $125 for nonmembers. Advance registration required.

Thursday, January 12, 6:30pm. National Constitution Center, F.M. Kirby Auditorium, 525 Arch Street. Explore how social networks are changing the landscape of individual rights and liberties with author Lori Andrews (I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did: Social Networks and the Death of Privacy); Forbes blogger Kashmir Hill, and New York Times reporter Jennifer Preston. Technically Philly’s Chris Wink will moderate the discussion. $7 for members, students and teachers or $10 for non-members; Advance registration required.
