Rethinking space on South Philly’s narrow streets

South Philly’s narrow streets can’t accomodate bike lanes. So what are the design alternatives to make small streets safer and more bike-friendly?

That’s the question the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and a team from the Community Design Collaborative have been working on for a few months as part of the Safe Streets for Healthy Neighborhoods initiative. As Anthony Campisi previously reported on PlanPhilly, ideas like traffic-calming bump-outs, different paving surfaces, and signage are in the mix.
