Philly Tech Week returns next week (April 23-28) and there are lots of events showcasing projects where civic-minded design and tech intersect – including one hosted by PlanPhilly. In case the long list of events overwhelms, EOTS offers this selection of daily picks.

MONDAY: OpenAccessPhilly Showcase

April 23, Noon-1pm. Zip through lightning presentations on Philly’s major open data public-private partnerships, including Code for America, OpenDataPhilly, Connect Philly and Freedom Rings. Location: WHYY (150 N. 6th Street) Free, register online.

TUESDAY: The Birth of a Digital Incubator Forum

April 24, 5:30-7:30pm The Knight Foundation, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, DreamIt Ventures, and Drexel University partnered with the Philadelphia Media Network to launch a Digital Incubator within the last year. Learn how the Digital Incubator is shaping media and the start-up community in Philadelphia at this forum and networking reception. Location: 400 North Broad Street. Free, register online.

WEDNESDAY: PlanPhilly Tax Delinquency App Demo

April 25, Noon-1pm. Join PlanPhilly for a walk through the web-based application we developed in partnership with the Philadelphia Inquirer to explore the city’s tax-delinquent properties. After an app demo, learn about the partnership that made it all happen through a panel discussion with Patrick Kerkstra (PlanPhilly contributor; freelance journalist), Rob Kandel (Inqurer), Kevin Gillen (eConsult), and our very own Managing Editor Matt Golas. THURSDAY: KEYSPOT: Community Media and Technology: Tools for Social Change

April 26, 6-7:30pm. How can individuals, activists, and community groups marshal social media tools to shape the news, speak up and be heard? Join groups like the Media Mobilizing Project and the People’s Emergency Center to discuss. Location: Philadelphia FIGHT (1233 Locust Street, 5th Floor).

FRIDAY: Without Walls: Works from the muraLAB/Breadboard Residency

April 27, 5-7:30pm. Without Walls: is a joint exhibition between Breadboard and MuraLAB that explores new directions in public art and technology. The exhibition is the result of six-month artist residency program where four local artists/artist teams were given access to the prototyping tools at NextFab Studio. Location: 3600 Market Street

SATURDAY: BarCamp News Innovation and Open Gov ‘News’ Hackathon

April 28, 9am-5pm. BarCamp NewsInnovation is a one-day “unconference” on journalism innovation and the future of news. Alongside BarCamp is a ‘News’ Hackathon where developers will work alongside practitioners to build civically minded apps and tools using local data sets. All are welcome.
