City Gardens Contest: enter by June 10
Is your block the greenest? Is your park the lushest? Is your community garden blue-ribbon-worthy? Enter your green space in the 2012 City Garden Contest to compete against fellow urban green-thumbs.
Since 1975 the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has honored the city’s creative and productive green spaces with its City Garden Contest, and this year’s contest is officially open. If you think your garden is competition-worthy fill out this online entry form by June 10.
Volunteer judges will shuttle around the city during July and August to visit gardens and select winners for best front and back yard, vegetable, community, container, flower, block, and park gardens. There are also categories for schoolyard or children’s gardens, urban farms, green roofs, and rain gardens.
“Garden entries are judged on maintenance and horticultural practices, variety, color and suitability of the plantings. Design and total visual effect are also taken in to account with extra points awarded for creativity and ingenuity,” according to the contest website.
Honorees will be celebrated at a reception in the fall.
