July 9: South Street Bridge Illumination

Since last fall work on the South Street Bridge’s light towers has been stop-start. Contractors completed installation of the panels, but technical issues with the LED lights postponed the illumination ceremony scheduled for January 3. We spotted LED light testing in December 2011 and May 2012, and now it appears that the kinks have been resolved and it’s time to light the towers.

On Monday, July 9 at 9pm the city will flip the switch to illuminate the light towers, marking the completion of the South Street Bridge reconstruction project. If you want to be there when the lights go on, head out early to the Weave Bridge in PennPark, the Walnut Street Bridge, or the Schuylkill River Park.
