Help Kung Fu Necktie and Johnny Brenda's corral bikes

  • A bike corral on Broad Street.

In lots of spots around the city there just isn't enough bike parking to satisfy demand. But this year the city is working with businesses and property owners resolve their bike parking issues by helping them install bike corrals for in-street bike parking. Two new corral locations in South Kensington and Fishtown are being considered by civic associations in the next week and community support is key, according to the Bicycle Coalition.

Wednesday, August 15 (tonight!): South Kensington Community Partners is holding a vote about a corral requested outside of Kung Fu Necktie (1250 N. Front Street). The meeting will be held at the Finanta Building at 2nd and Thompson (1301 N 2nd Street) tonight and neighbors living within a 1/4 mile radius are eligible to vote (scheduled for 8pm).

Tuesday, August 21: Fishtown Neighbors Association will consider a request by Johnny Brenda's (1201 N. Frankford Ave. at Girard) to put a corral outside during fair weather. The meeting will be at Fishtown Rec Center (1202 E. Montgomery Ave.) at 7pm. Be able to prove that you live or work in Fishtown (bring your license or a recent utility bill).

Both requested corrals are within City Council President Darrell Clarke's district and his office has indicated that they want to see real community support for the corrals before the Councilman throws his weight behind the proposals. So if you are a neighbor and want to help Kung Fu Necktie and Johnny Brenda's better serve their cyclist customers and improve Philly bike infrastructure, head out to the meetings.
