Re-viewing Sustainability forum (9/20) and 'red, black & GREEN: a blues' (9/21-22)

This weekend the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will present performances of red, black & GREEN: a blues, a four person, multimedia, interactive performance that explores interconnected ideas about caring for the planet, ourselves, and our communities.

In advance of the production the Annenberg Center is hosting a forum Thursday (9/20) evening to explore the show’s themes of sustainability, community, and environmental justice. Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the creator of red, black, & GREEN: a blues, will lead a conversation among planners and community leaders to explore “new modes of collaboration, community engagement and creative artistic responses for at-risk communities that have been ravaged by environmental depredations that affect their health and welfare.”

The Creative Ecosystem: Re-Viewing Sustainability Forum panelists include:
  • Katherine Gajewski, Director of Sustainability, City of Philadelphia
  • Amy Hillier, Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania School of Design
  • Aaron Levy, Executive Director, Slought Foundation
  • Kira Strong, Vice President of Community and Economic Development, People’s Emergency Center
Admission to the forum is free, but you must have a ticket. Reserve your seat online.

Performances of red, black & GREEN: a blues will take place at the Annenberg Center (3680 Walnut Street) on Friday, September 21 at 7:30pm and on Saturday, September 22 at 8pm. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at the Annenberg Center Box Office, by calling (215) 898-3900 or online. And – attention West Philly – $10 rush tickets are available for purchase in-person with a photo ID proving your residency in a West Philly zip code.
