  • Penn's Shoemaker Green completes new lush link between Penn and Center City.

The Navy Yard is about to be home to as many workers as before the shipyard closed. PlanPhilly’s Kellie Patrick Gates looks back on the Navy Yard’s rebirth and what’s in the soon-to-be-released master plan update, including extending the Broad Street Line and adding residential conversions, as well as new developments in the pipeline.

Inga Saffron explores the recently-improved links between University City and Center City, walking from Penn’s Shoemaker Green into Penn Park and up onto the newly-improved Walnut Street Bridge. “It is now possible to make the trip by navigating a series of peaceful, landscaped spaces. And thanks to a federally funded sidewalk-widening project, the worst stretch - over the Schuylkill - has been transformed into an almost urbane experience.” Shoemaker Green officially opened Thursday. EOTS visited Penn's new commons in August.

The 40th Street bridge, linking Mantua and East Parkside, is set to reopen this fall five years after it closed, reports PlanPhilly’s Christine Fisher. The 41st Street Bridge, which has been closed even longer, will be replaced next.

The old guard Vesper Club is moving out of its Sydenham building and into the Racquet Club. Stu Bykofsky revisits the exclusive club’s deal-making/dining/Mad Men-esque past.

A water main break at Woodward Street has shut down traffic on part of the southbound Roosevelt Boulevard. The 12-inch main broke overnight and crews are working to repair the break.

The hipster cred of NoLibs may have just dropped a notch. Forbes has named it as one of the "hippest hipster neighborhoods" in the country.
