DAG and PennPraxis at 10 | Navy Yard energy | East Falls speed | East Passyunk Acme parking

This year marks the 10th anniversary for both the Design Advocacy Group and PennPraxis. In her column today Inga Saffron reflects on their origins of both groups in the murky pay-to-play days of 2002 and their influence over the last decade. “It’s hard to imagine what Philadelphia would be like today without them,” she writes. “Since they began advocating for more thoughtful development, they have dramatically changed the culture in the city.” You can toast DAG’s anniversary during Design Philadelphia, on October 14 from 2-4pm at the Center for Architecture.

NewsWorks traces the growth of the Energy Efficient Buildings Hub, which is using the Navy Yard’s old buildings as a living laboratory for critical energy-efficiency research. “That’s kind of what the Philadelphia story is all about: making the past an asset for the future,” EEB Hub’s Laurie Atman said.

East Falls neighbors have long complained that too many drivers speed wildly on Henry Avenue, so NewsWorks’ Brian Hickey camped out with a radar gun to spot-check the speeds along these local “autobahns.” Of the 700 or so cars the two-reporter team counted on Henry Avenue and Lincoln and Kelly Drives, 297 were going more than 50mph.

Don’t ditch your car at the East Passyunk Acme: an $85 ticket could come your way, reports Passyunk Post. Overnight parking is okay between 10pm and 7am, but park for 24 hours and you’ll get a ticket.
