Seger Park’s new playground is taking shape

Seger Park’s playground, at 11th and Lombard streets, has been closed since September to make way for two new play areas. From the looks of things lately, work on the new playground, along the 11th Street side of the park, is chugging right along.

Back in September Seger Park’s old play equipment was removed, and when I cruised past the park on the bus the other day I noticed that a whole new playground had sprouted up in its place. Crews have been hard at work installing several of the new play structures, and Friends of Seger Park Playground‘s website says the playground should be open at the end of the year.

The price tag for the new playground is $500,000, which is covered through public funding and private donations. As for Fluidscapes, the cool water feature that Friends of Seger Park held a design competition for in 2011, they’re still trying to raise $200,000 more to make that a reality. For now the old splash pad is still in place, but as we mentioned in July, it was out of order for much of the summer.
