Tuesday, November 27, 5pm. Franklin Square, 6th and Race streets. Join Benjamin Franklin and Santa for an evening of holiday fun in Franklin Square, with crafts and seasonal treats and a round or mini-golf or a trip on the carousel. Free.

Raphael Sperry on Architecture and Ethics

Wednesday, November 28, Noon-1pm. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. Join Raphael Sperry (Director, Alternatives to Incarceration/Prison Design Boycott Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility) to discuss a proposed amendment to the AIA’s Code of Professional Conduct that would prohibit the design of spaces intended for execution or for long-term solitary confinement. The idea brings up deep questions about ethics and architecture. Registration requested.

Rittenhouse Square Tree Lighting

Wednesday, November 28, 5pm. Rittenhouse Square, 18th and Walnut streets. Join the Friends of Rittenhouse Square and Rittenhouse Row for this year’s tree lighting festivities, complete with hot cocoa, candy canes, and Santa.

Singing Fountain Tree Lighting

Thursday, November 29, 5-7pm. East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street. Kick off the holidays with the tree lighting ceremony hosted by Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation at East Passyunk’s singing fountain, along with carolers and seasonal refreshments. Free.

Conservation Conversation: Paul Mardikian

Friday, November, 30, Noon- 2pm. PennDesign, Meyerson Hall, Upper Gallery, 210 S. 34th Street. Conservator Paul Mardikian will discuss several naval conservation case studies, including the RMS Titanic and a Civil War proto-submarine, and consider what lessons these cases hold for industrial conservation at sites like Bethlehem Steel and Western Clay Manufacturing. Free.
