April 5-7: 'From Philadelphia With Love' | Furniture Show | Countdown to Germantown Day

Film: Secret Cinema: From Philadelphia With Love

Friday, April 5, 8pm. Freeman’s, 1808 Chestnut Street. As part of the Cinedelphia Film Festival, the Secret Cinema will screen From Philadelphia With Love: Industrial, Educational, and other Lost Local Films. Included in this selection of short films made for a non-theatrical market: Our Changing City (1955) which makes the case for urban renewal under the Clark administration, a peppy 1972 tourist film, The Story of Bubblegum (1952) including a tour of Olney’s Fleer bubblegum plant, a brief portrait of Friends Select from 1970, and the story of a counterfeiting ring run out of the Moyamensing Prison (1931). $9.

Show: Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show

Saturday, April 6, 10am-7pm. Sunday, April 7, 10am-5pm. 23rd Street Armory, 22 South 23rd Street. For the 18th year running, the Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show will showcase all sorts of artisinal furniture and housewares, from woodwork to weaving.  $12.

Fest: Countdown to Germantown Day

Saturday, April 6, 1-5pm. Vernon Park, 5800 Germantown Avenue. As part of a weekend of celebration, counting down to Germantown’s 330th birthday on October 6, Vernon Park will host an afternoon of live music, art in the park, dance workshops, local history, food and fun. Free.
