Panel: From Tracks to Parks: The Next Generation of Urban Green Space

Monday, April 29, 6-8pm. Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Come hear from representatives of Chicago’s Bloomingdale Trail, New York’s High Line, Philadelphia’s Reading Viaduct and City Branch, and St. Louis’ Trestle, as they discuss the way these projects are redefining urban ideas about parks. LECTURE: BUILDING PHILADELPHIA: Going on Stilts: The Tall Building in 19th C Philadelphia

Tuesday, April 30, 6-8pm, Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch St. As part of the 10-part lecture series about the architecture, history and politics of Philadelphia, Drexel professor Paula Spilner will discuss how Philadelphia built skyward during the 19th century. Individual lectures cost $20, $15 for AIA and Preservation Alliance members, $10 for students/AIA Associates. Register online.

PANEL: Bike Share Forum

Tuesday, April 30, 6-8pm. Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Representatives from Boston, Denver, and Washington DC will be on hand to talk bike share best practices with Deputy Mayor Rina Cutler and Andrew Stober from the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities. MOTU will also discuss details of Philly’s forthcoming bike share program. Free.

Workshop: Energy Efficiency in Older Homes

Tuesday, April 30, 6:30-8pm, The Woodlands, 4000 Woodland Avenue. The Preservation Alliance and Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust, are leading a series of homeowner workshops at The Woodlands. This week learn about how to make historic homes more energy efficient. Free.

Workshop: Repairing Historic Wood Windows

Wednesday, May 1, 6:30-8pm, Thomas Mansion, 6245 Wissahickon Avenue. As part of the Preservation Alliance and Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust‘s homeowner workshops, come learn about repair of historic wood windows. Free.
