City’s newest sprayground opens at Shot Tower Rec Center

Like a sweet reward for getting through last week’s brutal heat wave, the city’s newest sprayground opened Saturday at the Shot Tower Recreation Center in Queen Village. Sunday, Eyes on the Street visited to see what all the splash is about. Here’s what we found:

Impressively, Shot Tower Playground had a wading pool turned spray pool since the early 1900’s, but the water feature was in need of care. Friends of Shot Tower, an offshoot of the Queen Village Neighborhood Association, led the renovation beginning in 2009 with a grant from GreenPlan Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Department of Parks and Recreation also lent critical support to the project.

Temperatures may have finally dipped below 90, but there are still plenty of hot days for neighbors to make the most of the renovated sprayground.
