Good morning Streeters. Just in case you’re wondering summer’s not over yet: The temperature in Philly could hit 93° today.
Today is the 12th anniversary of September 11th and in Shanksville, PA the Flight 93 Memorial is marking an ending and a beginning, the Inquirer reports. This week the Flight 93 Advisory Commission held its final meeting. Ground will break next year on the park’s visitor center and fundraising continues for the Tower of Voices, a 93-foot carillon featuring 40 bells.
Rumor has it that if Comcast and Liberty Property Trust team up for a new high-rise at 18th and Arch, the architect will be London’s famed Foster + Partners, Hidden City Daily reports.
City Council President Darrell Clarke and Mayor Michael Nutter both offered support for the city’s proposed land bank at a vacant property conference in town this week, the Daily News reports. Questions still abound about how much power District Council Members will retain over vacant land disposition through a land bank process. To that Nutter said Council might need to give a little. “It does sometimes involve maybe the members not having as much direct control and authority over this particular piece of property getting developed,” he said. Meanwhile Clarke wants to create “development districts” to spur the sale and redevelopment of city-owned property with zoning and affordable housing incentives.
