It’s a week of urban environmental events about watersheds, landscape architecture, sustainability progress, air pollution, and public space.

PARTY: TTF Watershed celebrates at Globe Dye Works

Tuesday, September 17, 5:30-7pm. Globe Dye Works, 4500 Worth Street. The Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership is moving into new digs at Globe Dye Works and wants to meet its neighbors. TALK: Michael Van Valkenburgh

Wednesday, September 18, 6pm. PennDesign, Meyerson Hall, 210 South 34th Street. For the annual Ian McHarg Lecture, PennDesign snagged celebrated landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh. Van Valkenburgh will discuss his recent projects, which include Brooklyn Bridge Park, Chicago’s Bloomingdale Trail, and our very own Penn Park. Free.

NERD-OUT: Nerd Nite talks Sustainability

Wednesday, September 18, 7pm. Frankford Hall, 1210 Frankford Ave. September’s Nerd Nite will feature short talks by local sustainability experts – talk energy conservation with Philadelphia Energy Manager Kristin Sullivan, recycling with Philadelphia Recycling Director Phil Bresee, plastic bags with Green Philly Blog’s Logan Welde and Julie Hancher, and the science of landscape architecture wtih Eric Wahl from Element Design Group. $5

DISCUSS: How Polluted Air Affects Our Children

Thursday, September 19, 5:30pm reception; 6:30-8pm program. Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. For this month’s Urban Sustainability Forum, Moms Clean Air Force will lead a discussion about air pollution from cars, power plants and chemicals in consumer products and how those things affect children’s health. INTERVENE: Park(ing) Day 2013

Friday, September 20. Citywide. For one day dozens of in-street parking spaces show off their potential as temporary pop-up parks, seating areas, play zones, and more. Check out this map of all sites. Free.
