DISCUSS: Royal Theater Public Meeting

Monday, November 11. 6pm – 8pm. The Bainbridge Club, 1529 Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia. SOSNA has arranged for a public meeting to discuss the history of the Royal Theater and lay out next steps for the property. Representatives from Universal Companies will be present along with SOSNA and the South Street West Business Association. The groups will outline how the redevelopment of the historic theater will go through the zoning process, and a Q&A will follow the presentation. Free.

LEARN: CDCs 101: (Mostly) Everything You Wanted to Know About CDCs

Wednesday, November 13. 9:30am – 11:30am. Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations (PACDC) Offices, 1315 Walnut Street, Suite 1600, Philadelphia. Senior PACDC staff, members and city officials, this half-day session will highlight key information and insights for emerging CDCs and new staff and boards of existing CDCs. Cost: Members $20, Non-members $45. Register online

CELEBRATE: GeoFest

Wednesday, November 13 & Thursday, November 14. Times and locations vary throughout Philadelphia. The Geographical Society of Philadelphia brings the third-annual GeoFest to Philadelphia this week. GeoFest will celebrate the beauty and wonder of the planet and its people with events like the photography showcase Unseen Philadelphia and Beyond, the global geography and culture challenge Citywide GeoBowl held at West Catholic High School and more. Cost: $25-70.

SPARK: Electrical Spectacle: A Holiday Light Show debut

Thursday, November 14. 4:30pm – 8pm. Franklin Square, 6th and Race streets, Philadelphia. A new light show will illuminate the winter holiday season at Franklin Square this year. More than 50,000 lights, a 10-foot-tall kite and music by The Philly Pops will dance through the square Nov. 14 – Dec. 31, 4:30pm – 8pm daily, with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas. This Thursday, the team behind the light show will flip the switch and host an inaugural lighting along with seasonal treats. Free. 

WATCH: Grid Alive

Thursday, November 14. 6pm – 8pm. Trinity Memorial Church, 22nd and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia. At this month’s Grid Alive event, Philadelphia’s sustainability talk show, guests will include Avi Golen, founder and co-owner of Revolution Recovery; Janet Milkman, executive director of Delaware Valley Green Building Council; Elliott Gold, manager of energy efficiency programs at Philadelphia Gas Works; and Howard Neukrug, water commissioner for the Philadelphia Water Department. Cost: $5.
