STROLL Second Friday on Lancaster Ave

Friday, December 13. 5pm – 10pm. Lancaster Avenue from 34th Street to 41st Street. This month Lancaster Ave brings you a special holiday edition of Second Friday. Neighbors and shoppers will fill the street and take part in sidewalk sales, recipe samples, live music and art exhibits. The Mural Arts Program, Reed’s Coffee, Producers Guild, Reelblack Inc. and more will host special events in conjunction with the outdoor festivities. Free.

LEARN History Happy Hour

Friday, December 13. 6pm – 8pm. The Bainbridge Club, 1529 Bainbridge Street. Join the South of South Neighborhood Association for an evening discussing the neighborhood’s rich musical history, from theaters and clubs like Peps and the Showboat to Emersons, the Royal, Postal Card and more. The night includes live jazz from Dreaming Tree Jazz Trio and guest speakers. Free.

TOUR Pennypacker Mills Christmas Open House

Saturday, December 14. 2pm – 8pm. Pennypacker Mills, 5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksvile. Pennypacker Mills, the Montgomery County home of late Pennsylvania Governor Samuel Pennypacker, is all decked out for the holidays. This weekend the home is open for tours which include lessons on holiday traditions and children’s toys from 100 years ago. Guests will also be allowed, for the first time ever, into the servants’ quarters. Cost: Suggested donation $2.

LISTEN Tributaries: A Modern Cantada at Fairmount Water Works

Saturday, December 14. 4pm – 6pm. Kelly Pool at the Water Works, 640 Water Works Drive. A mini-opera will fill the Fairmount Water Works’ Kelly Pool this Saturday. The audience will sit in the empty lanes of the historic pool while three singers and a live orchestra perform four sections highlighting three Schuylkill River tributaries and the Schuylkill River itself. Cost: $15-$120. 

WONDER Zoo Noel

Saturday, December 14 & Sunday, December 15. 11am – 3pm. The Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 W Girard Avenue. This is the last weekend of Zoo Noel, the Philadelphia Zoo’s transformation into a winter wonderland. The fun includes a scavenger hunt that takes participants through a rainforest, the Outback, the Arctic, a safari and a farm; crafts and activities, pictures with Santa and holiday gift shopping and hot chocolate sipping in the Treehouse. Cost: Included in admission
