PARTY: Free admission at Benjamin Franklin Museum

Friday, January 17 – Sunday, January 19. 9am – 5pm. 317 Chestnut Street. Celebrate Ben’s birthday all weekend long at the Benjamin Franklin Museum, where admission is free in honor of the namesake’s 308th big day. The museum is the only dedicated to the life and legacy of Franklin, and this weekend it will host birthday-themed events including a parade, special presentations and a birthday party complete with free cake. Free.

WATCH: The Mill Creek Documentary: Past, Present & Future

Friday, January 17. 6pm – 8pm. Mill Creek Playground. 4700 Brown Street. Don’t miss this community screening of The Mill Creek Documentary, produced by The Mill Creek Community Partnership and Eli Lu Productions with support from The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. The film is an urban preservation outreach project intended to awaken, engage and inform the Mill Creek community. 

CELEBRATE: Eastern State celebrate’s Dr. Martin Luther King

Saturday, January 18 – Monday, January 20. 10:30am – 4:30pm. Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave. Eastern State Penitentiary dedicates this weekend to the memory and work of Dr. Martin Luther King. Throughout the weekend, actors will read excerpts from King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. Following each reading, a civil rights scholar will lead question and answer sessions for audience members. Tours will center on the civil rights movement. Free, make online reservations to attend the readings.

RENOVATE: Philadelphia Home Show

Saturday, January 18 – Monday, January 20. Pennsylvania Convention Center. 1101 Arch Street. The Philadelphia Home Show, a building, design and landscaping expo, returns to the Convention Center this weekend and next. Whether you’re looking to remodel your home or discover the newest trends in home building and improvement, this event promises to have something for you. Cost: Adults $13, Children 6-12 $3.

SHOP: Clover Market

Sunday, January 19. 10am – 5pm. 23rd Street Armory, 22 South 23rd Street. More than 60 vendors are planned for Clover Market’s winter market this Sunday. At Clover Market you’ll find antiques and collectibles, vintage jewelry and clothing, finely crafted handmade items and original art. Several DIY workshops will be held as well. A lineup can be found at www.theclovermarket.com. Cost: $5.
