When planted with native plants, these rain gardens can help reduce your contribution to stormwater runoff and provide low maintenance habitat.
Saturday, February 15 & Sunday, February 16. 10am - 5pm. The Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Looking to get out of the house? Head to the Academy of Natural Sciences for Paleopalooza. Each February the Academy hosts this two-day festival of fossils with activities like Mesozoic Market (educational displays, fossil vendors, dinosaur tattoos and more), Fossil Preparation, guided tours of dinosaur hall and more. Free with general admission.
Saturday, February 15 & Sunday 16. 3pm - 3:30pm. 2nd Bank Portrait Gallery, 420 Chestnut Street. Historic Philadelphia spotlights the portraits of George and Martha Washington and their contemporaries during free tours at the 2nd Bank Portrait Gallery this weekend. Catch tours at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Free.
Sunday, February 16. 2pm - 3pm. Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), 128 N. Broad Street. In conjunction with the PAFA's current Beyond the Paint: Philadelphia's Mural Arts, Shari Hersh, founder of Mural Arts' Restored Spaces program will discuss the program's initiatives. Since 2008, the program has worked to promote sustainability through public artwork - outdoor classrooms, an amphitheater of upcycled materials, murals, gardens, mosaics and more. Free.
Sunday, February 16. 10am - 4pm. Valley Forge National Historical Park, 1400 N. Outer Line Drive, Route 23 and North Gulph Road, King of Prussia, Pa. Valley Forge National Park is hosting a weekend-long series of free events to celebrate America's first Commander-in-Chief and the site he spent his birthday in 1778. Sunday, catch a local living history reenactment group encamped at the Valley Forge Muhlenberg Brigade and drill and artillery maneuver demonstrations. Free.
