April 3: Revised American Revolution museum plans | District planning update | SEPTA, union meet next week | Qatar Airlines brings $95 million impact | Educating against swimming in Pennypack

Good morning Eyes on the Street!  

The Philadelphia Art Commission approved revised plans for the proposed $150 million Museum of the American Revolution at 3rd and Chestnut streets. The new plans replace the previously discussed cupola with a less-glaring, square-edged element lower on the building, and include a reworked front entrance on 3rd Street and a large lobby with windows facing Chestnut Street. 

The Central Northeast has a new long-range district plan after the Philadelphia City Planning Commission gave its approval recently. The commission is expected to vote on the Lower North district plan shortly, and work on the Lower Northwest district plan is underway. PlanPhilly’s Kellie Patrick Gates has more. 

SEPTA and leaders of Transit Workers Union 234 are scheduled to meet next week, after the last of three TWU/SEPTA contracts expires Sunday at midnight. Union president Willie Brown says the union would forgo a strike if SEPTA meets its demands. SEPTA hopes to negotiate a solution. 

Qatar Airlines began daily nonstop service at Philadelphia International Airport yesterday. The PHL addition is expected to create a $95 million economic impact.  

This spring the Holme Circle Civic Association will work to educate area youth about the dangers of swimming in the Pennypack Creek, where two boys drowned last summer.
