CELEBRATE: Farm Fest at The Oval

Friday, April 18, 11am – 9pm & Saturday, April 19, 12pm – 6pm. Eakins Oval, 24th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The Oval is back for its 2014 season, and kicking things off is Farm Fest at The Oval. This three-day outdoor festival started Thursday but continues through Friday and Saturday with beer gardens, daily food trucks, live bluegrass music, hands-on activities, gardening workshops, movie screenings and more. Free.

MINGLE: Maker Happy Hour at NextFab

Friday, April 18. 5pm – 7pm. NextFab, 2025 Washington Ave. Want to peak inside NextFab’s Washington Ave studios, the space dedicated to prototyping new ideas, custom fabrication and technical training? This Friday guests are invited to come play games and hangout at the NextFab lab. The Yards Brewing Company-sponsored event includes cold beers and pre-dinner snacks. Free. 

VOLUNTEER: Clark Park Cleanup

Saturday, April 19. 12pm – 3pm. Clark Park, 4398 Chester Ave. The Fairmount Park Conservancy is leading a cleanup in Clark Park to celebrate Earth Day. Help is needed with leaf raking, branch collecting, flower and tree planting, mulching, trash and debris removal, weeding and sweeping. The first 30 volunteers will receive goodies like a daypack, aluminum water bottle, wooden nickel tokens and more. An after party is planned at Local 44. Free. 

LISTEN: Center City Jazz Festival

Saturday, April 19. 1pm – 7pm. Chris’ Jazz Cafe (1421 Sansom Street), Fergie’s Pub (1214 Sansom Street), Milkboy Philadelphia (1100 Chestnut Street), TIME Restaurant (1315 Sansom Street). The third annual Center City Jazz Festival presents 16 bands performing more than six hours of music at four venues all within walking distance of each other. Cost: $15 online, $20 at the door

RUN: 5K for Clean Air

Saturday, April 19. 9am. Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Clean Air Council is holding Philadelphia’s largest Earth Day event – the annual 5K Run for Clean Air. The course is located on the banks of the Schuylkill River, and the 33-year-old event celebrates sustainability, clean air and improvements to the region’s environmental health. Participants can choose the 5K run, 3K walk or kids’ fun run.

SHOP: Spring Plant and Produce Pop-up

Sunday, April 20. 10am – 2pm. Sister Cities Park, 18th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Sister Cities Park is celebrating Easter this year by hosting a plant and produce pop-up with fresh goodies from Greensgrow Farms. Greensgrow Farms will lead a children’s planting exercise, and the Philadelphia Guitar Summit will serenade attendees. Free.
