'Write Sky' aloft on May 10

UPDATE 5/9/14, 4:30PM: WRITE SKY HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

Look up and you might just see neighborhood messages in the sky.

This weekend marks the culminating piece of Write Sky, a community art project created by Dave Kyu, Asian Arts Initiative’s Social Practice Lab artist in residence, which will share three skywritten messages from community groups about the diverse identities of Chinatown North/Callowhill/Trestletown/Eraserhood/The Loft District.

From about 11am-1pm on Saturday, a skywriting airplane will broadcast messages written in exhaust into the ether, which may be visible from miles away, weather permitting. To see these messages, pack a picnic and find a clear spot in or around Callowhill and set your eyes to the blue yonder.

The three Write Sky messages were crafted by five participating groups -  Hive 76, 319 N 11th Street Artists, Roman Catholic High School, Folk Arts – Cultural Treasures School, and Friends of the Rail Park - and mark the end of a long road for this art project.

What would you say in 25 skywritten characters as a message about your neighborhood?
