PLAN: May City Planning Commission meeting

Tuesday, May 20, 1pm. 1515 Arch Street, 18th floor. This month’s City Planning Commission hearing has a huge agenda, including approval of the Lower North District Plan, the plan of development for a proposed AAA facility on the Delaware waterfront, CHOP’s new Schuylkill Avenue facility, and a raft of rezonings. Public.

TOUR: Paseo Verde

Tuesday, May 20, 4:30pm. 1950 North 9th Street. Join the Urban Land Institute’s Philly chapter to check out the nation’s first Platinum LEED Neighborhood Development, Paseo Verde, which was recently completed by Asociation Puertorriqueos en Marcha and Jonathan Rose Companies. The new transit-oriented development near Temple’s Regional Rail station boasts energy- and water-efficient features, low-toxin building materials, and shared community facilities. Tours will be led by WRT’s Antonio Fiol-Silva and developer Rose Gray, and attendees will enjoy refreshments and networking. $50, $35 for ULI members, register online.

TALK: Steven Holl, 29th Louis I. Kahn Memorial Lecture

Wednesday, May 21, 5:30-8pm. Penn Museum, 3260 South Street. Architect Steven Holl will deliver the Center for Architecture’s 29th Louis I Kahn Memorial Lecture. Holl won the 2012 AIA Gold Medal, and is well known for projects such as Simmons Hall at MIT, an addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, and the Linked Hybrid complex in Beijing. Holl’s talk will be followed by a Q&A with Inquirer architecture critic Inga Saffron. Proceeds will benefit the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. $65 for VIP reception and lecture ($55 for AIA members); $35 for lecture only ($15 for students with valid ID). REMEMBER: Ride of Silence

Wednesday, May 21, 6:45-8pm. Meet at Philadelphia Museum of Art steps, Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The annual Ride of Silence honors cyclists killed or injured in car-related crashes and helps to raise awareness about sharing the road safely. The bike ride will cover 8 miles through central Philadelphia, taking about an hour, in a loop that begins and ends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps. Helmets required, lights encouraged. Public.
