ASSESS: Civic Design Review

Tuesday, May 27, 1pm. 1515 Arch Street, Room 18029. Civic Design Review will take up three projects: 1 Water Street (250 North Christopher Columbus Blvd) and two projects for University of Pennsylvania Health System on Civic Center Boulevard. Public.

PLAY CARDS: Gray Area final community meeting

Wednesday, May 28, 6-8pm. Catalyst for Change Church, 3727 Baring Street. The Gray Area project team has developed a set of cards to promote dialogue and prompt new ideas in considering old buildings. Test out these cards, and discuss several buildings in Powelton/Mantua at this final public meeting. Free, registration appreciated.

PARTY: Wall Ball 2014

Thursday, May 29, 6-7pm VIP reception, 7-10pm Wall Ball. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden Street. The Wall Ball helps the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program raise money for its public art and education programs. Honorees this year include Shepard Fairey, M. Night Shayamalan, and Joe Goldblum. Tickets start at $200. Off-The Wall Ball Young Friends Collective after party tickets are $35 or $40 at the door.

MARK: Funeral for a Home

Saturday, May 31, 11am. 3711 Melon Street. Funeral for a Home is a social practice art project that marries public history with contemporary art. After spending months contributing to a neighborhood history project, public conversation, 3711 Melon Street will be demolished. To mark the home going of this rowhouse – one of many meeting the same fate across the city daily – a true funeral will be held – eulogies, song, a procession, and life celebration. Public.

CHILL: 7th Annual Roots Picnic

Saturday, May 31, Noon. Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. The legendary Roots crew will be joined by Snoop (backed by The Roots), The War On Drugs, Janelle Monae, Biz Markie and more. General admission, $64.

CHEER: Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic

Sunday, June 1, women’s race at 8:30am, men’s at noon. Start/Finish line: Lyceum Avenue. It’s Philly’s day to shine as a cycling city. Watch pro and amateur cyclists conquer the Manayunk Wall during races throughout the day. The best places to watch the 12-mile circuit course include the start/finish line, the Manayunk Wall, Main Street Manayunk, Lemon Hill, Kelly Drive, and Boathouse Row. Check out the course map. Public.
