DISCUSS: Civic Design Review – How does it work and is it working?

Tuesday, June 24, 12-1pm. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. Now two years old hear how the Planning Commission’s Civic Design Review process works and hear how people think it’s functioning. Panelists include Donna Carney (Citizens Planning Institute, Philadelphia City Planning Commission), Cecil Baker (Cecil Baker + Partners, Member of Civic Design Review Committee), Hercules Grigos, Esq. (Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP), and Jose Hernandez, AIA (JKR Partners, Architects). Register online.

PLAN: Lower Northwest District Plan meeting

Thursday, June 26, 7-8:30pm. Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, 8480 Hagys Mill Road. Neighbors in East Falls, Manayunk, Roxborough, Wissahickon, Shawmont, and Andorra are invited to join the Philadelphia City Planning Commission to refine area’s vision for growth, preservation, and development, and help set planning goals and recommendations. Public.

WATCH: Rushmore on Schuylkill Banks

Thursday, June 26, 8:30pm. Schuylkill Banks near the Walnut Street Bridge. Bring a picnic and watch Wes Anderson’s Rushmore by the river. Free.

OPEN: Spruce Street Harbor Park

Friday, June 27, 11am-1am. Penn’s Landing Marina, Columbus Blvd at Spruce St. The waterfront’s popup park – complete with concessions, boardwalk games, a floating barge oasis, misting walk and hammocks – officially opens to the public this Friday. It will be open 7 days a week, 11am-1am, through August 31. Public, pay as you go.

EXPLORE: Cobbs Creek Trail Walk

Saturday, June 28, 10am-1pm. Meet at The Porch at 30th Street Station. After a short 34 trolley ride to 63rd and Baltimore Ave, join architect Bob Thomas for a tour of the Cobbs Creek Trail in Southwest Philly followed by catered lunch at Bartram’s Garden. $15, register online.

PARTY: Destination Frankford

Saturday, June 28, 2-5pm. Destination Frankford Gallery Frankford Ave and Paul St. Join Destination Frankford for a block party, gallery opening, and the big reveal of designs for the “Frankford Pause,” a unique outdoor community space coming next spring to the area near Margaret-Orthodox Station. Free.

RIDE: Petty’s Island

Sunday, June 29. PA riders meet at 1pm and ride over Benjamin Franklin Bridge or 1:30pm meetup for NJ riders. Take a ride along the Jail Trail, State Street Bridge, as you view Petty’s Island in the Delaware River and learn about the island’s history. Binocular-bearing riders may even be able to see bald eagles. Finish the ride at Victor’s Pub in the Nipper Tower. Free for Bicycle Coalition members (code: Benefits2014), $20 for public. Register online.
