Streetviews: Q&A with Farah Jimenez, SRC commissioner

Next up in our Streetviews video series: Farah Jimenez, a commissioner on the School Reform Commission, talking about the importance of funding our schools, the problem of letting personal baggage impede progress, and how Philly says it doesn’t like change but it really can (and needs to) embrace new ideas. At the time Jimenez was also still CEO of People’s Emergency Center CDC in West Philadelphia, a position she left shortly after we spoke.

  • Farah Jimenez: commissioner on School Reform Commission, former CEO of People’s Emergency Center CDC
  • Neighborhood: Chestnut Hill
  • Favorite Place: Fairmount Park, “It’s amazing to think of this huge urban environment being so integrated to this beautiful natural system.”
  • Three words to describe Philly: Aspirational. Quaker. Intractable (sometimes).
  • Local Hero: Center City District’s Paul Levy: “He has had moved mountains, really sell vision and then align resources to make that happen. That is not easy to do in a city where we really don’t like change all that much but when he completes the project and you see the life that it brings to the urban space and how people interface and interact with it, it’s just pure genius. It really gives people a different sense of a city that they live in.”
