Spotted: New street furniture on 'King of Jeans' pedestrian plaza

Our eyes are ever peeled for interesting sights and sites. Here’s what caught our attention this week:

Back in April, Taylor Farnsworth reported that the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation (PARC) would be revamping the pedestrian triangle at the intersection of E. Passyunk Avenue, Mifflin, and 13th Streets, across from the old King of Jeans sign, as a more useable public space.

PARC bought the newstand in the middle of the plaza only to tear it down immediately, foreshadowing a quick turnaround for the project.

Three months later, work is ramping up again and we now know that the plaza work will be completed in time for the Car Show on July 26th.

I was down on the Avenue earlier today to take some photos of the street furniture they installed over the past couple of days, and Sam Sherman, PARC's executive director, informed us that new trees will be installed next week, with planters coming on the 21st.
